Living Social pivots to Food Ordering, competes with GrubHub/CampusFood

In the major cities and college towns, CampusFood.com has been popular and successful over the past ten years. Seamless Web is also popular in the major cities for corporate catering. With the growth of mobile, VC’s are seeing online ordering as an opportunity for increased growth and profitability.

So I’ve been reading some hollywood gossip from CDAN and it seems like Robert Downey Jr is bored in his trailer and pseudo-anonymously commenting on gossip blogs. Its fairly common for celebrities and their PR people to scan the gossip rags and stop bad PR or dish out positive PR for celebrity couples, so it could very well be RDJ himself. For one thing, he’s clean and sober now, so he’s probably got a lot of free time and bored with reading books and doing yoga. Some of the comments seem to match his speaking style, particularly in that snarky, confident, witty tone he’s known for.

Shocking trade: Redskins trade with the Rams for the 2nd Draft Pick

The owner of the Redskins, Daniel Snyder, has a long history of trading high round draft picks for “franchise” players, who later proved to be busts. He seems to have returned to his desperate ways with the trade for the Rams 2nd pick in the 2012 NFL draft. The Redskins will likely select Robert Griffin III as their future franchise quarterback. Its a decent trade, since the Cleveland Browns were likely to have made the same deal.

But for the Redskins, it just seems potentially like another snake-bitten move considering their past. By giving up the 2 additional first round draft picks, the Redskins won’t be able to find other top players to build the team around. Its also surprising that supposed quarterback guru, Mike Shanahan, wasn’t able to find any other overlooked backups like Matt Flynn to mold. But I guess when you’ve been burned by Rex Grossman and John Beck, finding diamonds in the rough are no longer possible.

Alcatraz show, sponsored by anti-aging cream

Alcatraz is a new show on Fox produced by JJ Abrams of Lost. It is similar to Lost and other Lost-produced spinoffs in that it deals with flashbacks and alternate timelines/universes. In Alcatraz, Hurley from Lost stars as an Alcatraz history expert who helps Sam Neill, a blonde detective, and the doctor from ER in their search for escaped Alcatraz prisoners. However, it seems that the prisoners have not aged for the 40 years since they were reported missing. This would make a great product sponsorship tie-in for Neutrogena anti-aging cream. However, it seems like their condition is caused by scientific experiments requiring large amounts of blood. This could range from stem cell research, frozen cryogenics, or other advanced science methods. If the producers really want to amp up the science fiction, they can introduce cloning, time travel, alternate universes, or alien abduction.

Similar to Lost, Alcatraz is an island, so the prisoners may have been frozen in the water beneath the island, or they may have been transported away from the island. Its an interesting, but dark show. I think Hurley is a good actor and I enjoy watching him. I wonder if he has a clause in his contract preventing him from losing weight. I hope he doesn’t become another skinny Seth Rogen or Jonah Hill.
